About the Veteran Homestead Inc.

The Veteran Homestead Inc. is a small 501 (c)(3) non-profit in Fitchburg Massachusetts that has been providing housing and services for veterans from across the country since 1993.  Our goal is to fill the gaps in services that are created when the volume of veterans and the types of services available through the VA or other organizations fail to meet the veterans’ needs.   We have tried to become a meaningful adjunct to the services offered by the VA by supporting and augmenting their existing programs.

Our Programs:

The Veteran Hospice Homestead:  A home in Fitchburg MA for homeless veterans with a terminal diagnosis. Built with the help of Grant and Per Diem funds this is the only privately run, veteran specific, Hospice in the country.

· The Veteran Victory Farm:  A working organic farm in Fitzwilliam NH for veterans with severe psychological or emotional problems.

· The Hero and Armistice Homesteads:  Homes for homeless veterans in Leominster MA providing housing and services for elderly and or disabled veterans.  

· The Hacienda de Veteranos:  A facility in Caguas Puerto Rico for homeless veterans with substance abuse, emotional and psychological problems. Built with the help of Grant and Per Diem Funds and is the first and only facility of its kind in Puerto Rico.

· Veteran Homestead Mobile Medical Unit:  A van that provides basic medical care to homeless veterans in Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.  

· The Northeast Veteran Training and Rehabilitation Center in Gardner MA is our newest facility with twenty, two bedroom, housing units and a Therapy Center, adjacent to and partnered with the Mount Wachusett Community College campus (located in Gardner, MA), that provides housing, education, physical and emotional therapy case management and counseling to OEF/OIF veterans with traumatic injuries.  This facility is designed to provide all of the appropriate services to both the veteran and their families.  The Center and the first five duplex units are complete and providing housing and services. The Veteran Homestead has raised seven of the eight million dollars necessary to build the facility through private donations.  We need one million dollars more to complete the project and $750,000 per year to support it.
